Lionel Messi put in another virtuoso performance for Inter Miami, scoring two goals and providing the assist for Sergio Busquet’s strike in his club’s 3-1 win over Nashville SC.

Since joining Inter Miami last July, Messi has given MLS a boost and on Saturday he became the first player in the league to score multiple goals in five of the first six games of a season.

His brilliance has transformed Miami’s fortunes, helping it win a first trophy and its current spot at the top of the Eastern Conference standings last August, and drawing huge crowds wherever the club now plays, including a record home game on Saturday at Chase Field. .

Nashville took the lead after just two minutes, taking advantage of poor Miami defense on a corner kick as the ball ricocheted off Franco Negri’s leg into the net for an own goal.

But less than ten minutes later, Messi produced one of his trademark mazy runs and after his first attempt was saved by goalkeeper Elliot Panicco, Luis Suárez collected the rebound and Messi was on hand to equalize for Miami.

Inter Miami earned a 3-1 victory over Nashville SC.

Suárez joined his former Barcelona team-mate in Miami in December and the two have formed a powerful combination, scoring 17 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Messi then set up Miami’s second goal, his perfectly weighted corner curling towards the near post and grazing the head of Sergio Busquet, who guided the ball into the net to give his side a 2-1 lead just before half-time.

“I’m very happy (with Messi’s help),” Busquet told reporters, according to ESPN, after scoring his first goal for Miami. “I am very happy with everything his presence means, both at club level and off the field. We must continue to work to achieve our goals.”

And the Argentine superstar confirmed Inter Miami’s victory in the 80th minute when he coolly converted a penalty to give his team a 3-1 lead that Nashville could not overturn.
