RUSD new board members will be sworn in Monday

RACINE – Two new members will be sworn in Monday at the Racine Unified School District Board meeting.

Grace Allen and Mike Bellagio, who were elected earlier this month, will take their oath of office at 5 p.m.

Allen was elected to a three-year term representing District 4, which covers the western and northern portions of the city of Racine.

Bellagio was elected to a one-year term representing District 8, which includes North Bay, Wind Point and parts of Caledonia.

Ally Docksey and April Harris, who were re-elected to three-year terms on the board, will also take the oath of office.

The board will hold a reorganization meeting at 5:15 p.m., where members will elect a president, vice president, treasurer and clerk for the coming year.

Business meeting

The school board will then hold its regular business meeting at 6:30 p.m

During the business meeting, the board will consider approving $150 million over the next 12 months to help finance seven referendum-funded projects: $40 million for the new Schulte K-8 School, $37.5 million for the renovation of Horlick High School, $26 million for the new school. Save Apple K-8 STEAM School, $16.5 million to renovate Mitchell K-8 School, $15.5 million to expand Olympia Brown Elementary, $10 million to upgrade SC Johnson Elementary and $4.5 million to upgrade Fratt Elementary renovate.

The board will also consider guaranteed construction prices for referendum-funded work on three buildings.

Members will consider approving a maximum guaranteed price of $26.67 million for work at Mitchell, expected to be completed by August 2025

The board will consider approving a guaranteed construction price of $18.47 million to expand Olympia Brown into a K-8 school, which is expected to be completed by August 2025.

Members will consider approving a guaranteed construction price of $15.46 million for renovation work at SC Johnson Elementary, expected to be completed in August 2025.

The board will consider approving a 2% base pay increase for RUSD educators and construction industry workers in the 2024-2025 school year.

The board will consider approving the purchase of approximately 250 “multifunction printing devices” at a cost of just under $2.3 million. According to a fact sheet from the board, RUSD replaces its printer fleet every four years.

All meetings will take place in the Mygatts Room at the RUSD Administrative Service Campus Building 1, 3109 Mt. Pleasant St.
