Police identify man killed in East Austin neighborhood park

No arrests have been made in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old man, who was killed Wednesday evening in a neighborhood park in East Austin’s Mueller neighborhood, according to a news release.

Tayjay Stephens died after suffering an apparent gunshot wound, the release said. Police found Stephens in a vehicle in the parking lot of the basketball court at Bartholomew Park, near East 51st Street and Berkman Drive. He was shot in the abdomen, senior officer Wesley Belcher said earlier at a news conference.

Stephens was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m. after being taken to a local hospital, the release said. Police have not provided a motive for the shooting.
