Roanoke College hosts Little Feet Meet

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Roanoke College will host the Little Feet Meet Special Olympics for K-12 athletes on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thousands of children with and without intellectual disabilities compete in the Feet Meet Series, including the Big Feet Meets and Little Feet Meets, according to the Special Olympics of Virginia. The Special Olympics of Virginia declared that more than 500 athletes from 35 area elementary schools will take to the Roanoke College Alumni Field to demonstrate their running, jumping and throwing skills.

The Feet Meet events are public celebrations of important developmental and social milestones of students with disabilities, and students without disabilities practice and compete with their team and serve as superfans, according to the Special Olympics of Virginia.

Students and faculty from Roanoke College and Salem High School will help present this event, including a special ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

Students from Roanoke College, ECPI University, Salem High School, Lord Botetourt High School, law enforcement and community members will serve as volunteers.

Students from South Salem Elementary School will be present for the torch lighting.
