KKR batted first and posted 222/6 thanks to knocks from opener Phil Salt (48) and captain Shreyas Iyer (50). In reply, RCB’s Will Jacks (55) and Rajat Patidar (52) both scored half-centuries but ultimately fell just one point short.

In the second innings, RCB and India star Virat Kohli were the subject of discussion as he reacted angrily to being caught and dismissed a full toss from pacer Harshit Rana.

Kohli was adamant that the delivery he received was a no-ball and therefore it should not have been given out. He was seen arguing and gesturing angrily at the umpires as he left the field, a move that is sure to impact RCB’s position in the rankings for the fair play award.

The award is intended to give players an incentive to behave in the spirit of the game on and off the field. It undoubtedly has a secondary status to the IPL trophy itself, but both prizes have eluded Kohli and RCB in every season of the competition so far.

The first fair play award was won by Chennai Super Kings in 2008, and the last was given to Delhi Capitals. CSK (2010 and 2011), SRH (2016), MI (2020) and GT (2022) are the teams to have won both the IPL trophy and the fair play award in the same season.
