Beautiful golf course in the heart of New Jersey

My golf travels took me to Hillsborough, New Jersey this weekend. A course I had played years before, but had no memories of.

I played at Royce Brook Golf Club. My start time was 2:20 PM and the price was $52. And let me tell you, considering the quality, this price obviously feels like a bargain.

I still believe that if a golf course is in good condition and has a good layout, I will travel as far as necessary to play it.

Like a few other courses I’ve played recently, Royce Brook had a links-like feel. Since I played it in the spring, the winds have been blowing pretty crazy. It felt like wind speeds of 20 to 30 km per hour were constantly coming at you.

When the wind was at your back it was great, but when the wind was in your face it made for some tricky shots. However, because the course was links style, you never really got into trouble hitting the ball off the tee.

The fairways and greens were in great condition. It felt like playing in a private club. And by the way, Royce Brook does have a course that only members can play there. So they have two 18-hole courses. From what I could tell, they both seemed to be in a similar state.

The greens rolled true, if you hit your putt where you wanted it to stay on that line.

A well-run public course for just $52 in the afternoon? You’re making a mistake if you don’t try this place out.
