Cranston man found dead after police responded to armed, suicidal report

CRANSTON – A man was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after Cranston police responded to reports of a suicidal person armed with a firearm Tuesday afternoon.

At 1:12 p.m., the Cranston Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call about a 44-year-old man threatening suicide at an apartment at 1097 Pontiac Avenue.

Officers quickly established a perimeter around the location and informed residents of the potential danger.

Attempts to communicate with the man proved fruitless.

Around 4 p.m., police raided the second-floor apartment and discovered the man had died.

The Cranston Police Department extends its condolences to the family of the deceased at this tragic time.
