Diamond Hawks win Key Series at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass.Trevor Marsh collected three hits and Zane Taylor held Northeastern to a point on four hits as UNCW defeated the Huskies 5-3 on Sunday to win the Coastal Athletic Association series at Friedman Diamond.

With the win, the Seahawks increased their record to 26-14 overall and remained in first place with a 12-3 mark in conference play. The Huskies, meanwhile, fell to 28-11 and 10-5 in the CAA.

UNCW took a 2-1 lead in the second inning and never looked back. Alec DeMartino opened the inning by reaching base safely on a throwing error and Brock Wills followed by a two-run homer to right-center to open the scoring.

Taylor (5-0) needed 68 pitches to get through the first three innings, but only needed 36 over his final four innings. The righthander allowed one run on four hits, walked three and struckout two.

UNCWs Kevin Jones added two hits, including an RBI triple in the seventh, that gave UNCW a 4-1 lead.

Luke Craig scored his second save in the final two innings.

Ryan Gerety had two hits for Northeastern and Mike Sirota hit his third home run of the season.

Wyatt Scotti (5-4) took the loss.

The Seahawks host Charleston Southern on April 23 at 6 p.m
