First thunderstorms possible on Monday; looking at serious threat at the end of the week

Temperatures dropped below freezing both Saturday and Sunday mornings, which could very well be our last freeze until fall. Sunday morning our low temperature in Lincoln dropped into the mid 30s. It will be about 10 degrees warmer from Sunday night to Monday morning.

Previous lows

Speaking of warmer, we will warm up quickly by Monday thanks to some south and southwest winds with gusts around 30 to 60 km/h, especially in the late morning. This week will feature highs in the upper 70s on Monday and Friday.

Week ahead

This looks to be another active week, with several storms possible. The first round comes Monday evening after a passing cold front. This will be a weaker round of isolated storms that not everyone will see – better chances south of I-80. A few isolated showers are possible until early Tuesday morning.

Jessica Stormcast

The chance of severe weather will return towards the end of the week. The risk for Thursday at this point (day 5) is just south, through Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. That potential is close enough that we’ll be keeping an eye on at least some extremely severe weather in Nebraska.

Do Spc

On Friday (Day 6), the Storm Prediction Center has marked eastern Nebraska – including Lincoln – with a 15 percent chance of severe weather.

Fri Spc

Many details still need to be worked out in the coming days, but Thursday and Friday will only be the start of an active period that will continue into the weekend.
