Talladega Results: April 21, 2024 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR Cup Series drivers are offloaded in Talladega, Alabama. The 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway will host the Geico 400.

Phase 1 – Report

Laps: 60 (1-60 / 188)

Green flag, they even run into turn one and out of turn two. A few laps later, McDowell finally noses ahead on the inside track.

Lap 5, Truex Jr leads on the outside track. They form three wide for the lead. Wallace pushes Truex Jr forward.

On lap 7, Chastain pushes Daniel Hemric into the lead.

On lap 16, Hamlin pushes Briscoe into the lead. They stay three wide throughout the field.

On lap 30, McLeod pushes Truex Jr into the lead on the outside track.

On lap 40, BJ McLeod runs out of fuel. He pulls out of the line, sweeps the wall and heads to the pit lane under the green.

On lap 43, Denny Hamlin gets stuck in the pit lane. He turns, without any caution.

Lap 46 completes the first pit cycle with green flags. Chase Elliott cycles out with the lead.

1 to go into phase one, Cindric leads with Larson on his inside. Larson is in the tail end of the first round. Elliott pushes Larson forward.

Larson withdraws from the line. Cindric and Elliott run side by side to the line.

Austin Cindric wins stage one at Talladega Superspeedway!

Phase 2 – Report

Laps: 60 (61-120/188)

Cindric leads the field to the pit lane. Kyle Busch wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Busch and Blaney running side by side at the front. Blaney wins the early fight with a push from Cindric.

On lap 69, Austin Dillon pushes Shane van Gisbergen into the lead via the outside lane. At the front they remain three wide.

On lap 70, many drivers save fuel. Nemechek forward as the lead quickly changes.

In lap 100 the pace increased again. Buescher leads with Gilliland on his bumper.

On lap 104, Corey LaJoie spins into the water as he exits pit lane, without any warning.

Slow stop for Denny Hamlin as he gets stuck again reaching pit lane. He misses his stable and is forced to drive backwards.

Penalty: Bell and Blaney are caught speeding in the pit lane and must serve a pass-through.

With 8 to go in phase two, the green flag cycle is complete. Logano cycles away with the lead in the race.

With seven to go, Buescher has momentum over Logano. Logano blocks and Buescher dives in to try to take the lead.

With 3 to go Cindric pushes Logano into the lead.

1 to go, Larson leads the outside lane while Logano leads the inside. They run side by side into the fourth turn. Logano is in the lead in the tri-oval.

Joey Logano wins stage two at Talladega Superspeedway!

Phase 3 – Reporting

Laps: 68 (121-188/188)

Green flag on stage three, Logano and Chastain run side by side into the first turn. Chastain wins the battle on the inside track.

On lap 130, Logano works outside of Chastain, side by side for the lead.

55 to go, middle of the pack piling up. Chase Elliott becomes Justin Haley. Haley then hooks Christopher Bell into the wall. The caution is out.

Chastain leads the field to the pit lane. Logano wins the race to the pit exit. Several cars remain outside. Josh Berry takes the lead while Logano restarts in seventh.

Green, Berry and Gragson line up side by side for the lead.

With 48 to go, Chastain pushes Justin Haley into the lead on the outside lane. Michael McDowell quickly takes it away.

With 37 to go, a group of Toyotas dive to the pit lane under green, just for fuel.

33 to go

With 33 to go, John Hunter Nemechek pushes Bubba Wallace into turn three. Erik Jones is eliminated by Bubba Wallace’s bumper draft! All three cars were out of alignment and a bump pull went wrong. Jones gets hooked hard into the outside wall! Denny Hamlin and John Hunter Nemechek are also collected. The caution is out.

McDowell leads most of the field to the pit lane. Reddick stays out and takes control. McDowell restarts second.

Green, Reddick and McDowell line up side by side for the lead. Keselowski pushes McDowell into the lead.

With 15 to go, McDowell leads while blocking runs from both lanes behind him.

With five to go, McDowell and Reddick are side by side for the lead.

With 2 to go, Keselowski pushes McDowell away from the front.

With 1 to go, McDowell and Reddick run side by side into the first turn for the last time. Keselowski pushes McDowell free in turn three.

Keselowski looks outside McDowell at the tri-oval. McDowell blocks, Keselowski dives in. McDowell blocks again and it’s turned! Several cars were involved in the accident.

Tyler Reddick slides past them both to take the win at Talladega Superpseedway!
