Women’s tennis defeats Brown in regular season finale

NEW YORK – The 48eThe ranked Columbia women’s tennis team battled Brown 4-1 to close out the regular season Sunday afternoon at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.

Columbia won the doubles point to get the match going. The duo of Gayathri Krishnan And Sophia Strugnell forced a break and earned a 6-4 win over second-ranked Ali Benedetto and Addison Ahlstrom. The top duo of Anna Zhang And Sophia Wang recorded a 6-4 victory against Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander to take the doubles point for the Lions.

Krishnan and Zhang picked up singles wins to put Columbia ahead 3-0, getting the singles action underway. Krishnan rolled to record a 6-2, 6-1 victory over fourth-ranked Nora Lee. Zhang then recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win against second-ranked Benedetto.

Brown earned the only team point of the match as Peus posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory Fatima Keita in the top singles match.

The Lions responded quickly as Julia Haynes finished with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Gabby Soliman in the No. 3 singles match to complete Columbia’s 4-1 win.

Columbia will now turn its attention to the NCAA selection show on Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM to see if the Lions qualify for an at-large bid.
