Track & Field will set seven program records this weekend

NEW YORK — The Columbia outdoor track and field team set seven new program records this weekend, with impressive performances at both the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville and the Wake Forrest Invitation in Winston-Salem.

The most impressive record of the pack came from Josua Adams in the triple jump at the Virginia Challenge. He shattered a Columbia program record that had stood in the event since 1959 with a score of 7.61 meters, which helped him secure first place in the event.

Also in Charlottesville, Obiora Okeke And McKinlee Morris had great performances in the shot put. After setting program records in the men’s and women’s events last week at the Miami Alumni Invitational, they both broke their own records this weekend. Okeke won the men’s event with a record of 18.58m, while Morris set a record with a mark of 13.56m.

Additionally at the Virginia Challenge, Camylin Blake tied a program record in the women’s outdoor 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.77, which was good for fifth place.

Meanwhile, in Winston-Salem, Columbia’s distance runners showed up and showed up. Phoebe Anderson led the way by finishing first in the women’s 5,000 meters, setting a Columbia outdoor record with a time of 15:29.02. This time is also the second fastest time in Ivy League history.

Nikki Vanasse The strong year continued and she set a new program record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:11.39. This time was also the fifth fastest in Ivy League history.

In the 5,000 meters men, Charlie Siebert set a new Columbia record with a time of 13:49.91.

The Lions have another busy weekend on deck, with the Penn Relays on April 25 and 27 and the Yale Springtime Invitation on Sunday, April 28.
