Heavyweights finish second in Blackwell Cup and Colgan Cup Races on Saturday

LEONIA, NJ – The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight team finished second to Yale in all four races on Saturday at Overpeck Park. The Quakers defeated race host Columbia for second place in both the Blackwell Cup (1V8) and Colgan Cup (2V8) races.

Varsity Eights (Blackwell Cup)
Yale retained the Blackwell Cup for another year, with the Bulldogs’ second boat beating the Quakers’ eighth boat by just over three seconds. Penn had a lead over Columbia by more than 12 seconds

Second Varsity Eights (Colgan Cup)
Penn entered this race with the lowest ranking of the three boats, in 11th place, but avenged last Saturday’s four-second loss to No. 10 Columbia in Princeton with a 2.1-second win Saturday in Overpeck . The Bulldogs’ third-place boat won by just over five seconds.

In a two-boat race, the Bulldogs’ third boat was just under five seconds better than the Quakers’ sixth boat.
